SureAqua Straw Plus Product Review

Recently the folks at Sureaqua sent Ashley and I the SureAqua Straw Plus to review for our readers. Sureaqua is the maker of many water filtration devices. A water filtration device is absolutely crucial for hikers who do extended backpacking, and lets face it, safe clean water when hiking in the wilderness is critical to your safety and is the main reason why we agreed to do the review. Ashley and I thought the SureAqua Straw Plus performed very well.

Specs on the Sureaqua Straw from the Manufacture:  The SureAquaStraw is a high tech, tested and approved water purification system that removes 99.999999% of waterborne bacteria, viruses including Pseudomonas, Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus and Fecal Coliforms, plus parasitic contamination by Cryptosporidium, and Giardia. It filters out bacteria to 0.01 micron including Giardia and Cryptosporidium, i.e. removal of 99.9999% of bacteria. It filters out out viruses to 0.01 micron i.e. removal of 99.99% of viruses and it removes parasites, cysts, oocysts, and spores.

Our Review: When we received the SureAqua Straw Plus we were presently surprised to see how lightweight, sturdy, and portable it was. The weight of a product is obviously a critical factor when putting something in your backpack for a long hike and the lighter the better. We were also glad to see that the SureAqua Straw Plus, was constructed out of hard durable plastic material and was ergonomically easy to use.

Ashley and I both tested the SureAqua Straw Plus while out on a couple of our hikes in Southern California and it performed great. It was easy to use. You will notice a little resistance when using the SureAqua Straw Plus while the water is being pulled through the filter. There is one practical downside to the SureAqua Straw Plus and that you cannot carry water using the SureAqua Straw Plus. If you need to carry water, one of SureAqua's other products is probably more suitable to your needs. Alternatively, you could use the straw to drink water out of a wide mouth water bottle and use that water bottle to carry water for you which is what we did. The product information states that the filter treats 264 gallons of water which is a lot of water for such a compact portable device. Sureaqua has a large variety of water filtration products on the market many of which filter to 0.01 microns. The price of SureAqua's products are comparable to other water filtration devices on the market and more information regarding pricing can be found Here. We both thought the product overall was extremely durable, easy to use, and filtered water well, but in reality hikers will need to carry water with them so it might be better to get one of their other filters to fill up your hydration packs!
