June 4 – Fitness Hike at Canyon View   
8:30 – 11 a.m.
Raise your heart rate and your spirits on this strenuous, moderate paced, 6-mile hike over steep and uneven terrain (400-ft. elevation gain) with Laguna Canyon Foundation volunteers.

Visit with Preserve staff for story-telling fun! After a story, learn more about the natural history of the bay through crafts and nature walks.

June 6 – Saturday Fitness Hike at Willow  
8 – 10:30 a.m.
Raise your heart rate and your spirits on this strenuous and fast-paced, 5.5-mile hike over steep and uneven terrain (571-ft. elevation gain) with Laguna Canyon Foundation volunteers.

June 6, 27 – Beginning Archery Class
9 – 10 a.m.
Join Park Rangers and Volunteers for an introductory archery class at the brand new archery range at Mile Square Regional Park. This one hour long class will introduce participants to the basics of the exciting sport or archery.

June 6 – Caspers Park Foundation Monthly Meeting 
9:30 – 11 a.m.
Interested in volunteering at Caspers Wilderness Park? Join our monthly volunteer meeting held in the Caspers Wilderness Park Nature Center. This is a great opportunity to learn just what volunteers do, as well as meet others who love nature, the outdoors and preserving the park for all.

June 6, 13, 20, 27 – Guided Interpretive Hike
10 – 11 a.m.
Join our naturalists on a nature walk and learn about the local plants, animals and history of Irvine Regional Park. Light to moderate walking on both paved paths and trails.

June 7, 14, 21, 28 – Ranger Led Nature Hike 
8 – 9 a.m.
Join our Park Rangers Sunday mornings for an easy 1-mile hike on the Nature Trail. The trail takes visitors through grassland, oak woodland, riparian and sandy cactus scrub communities.

June 7 – Geology and Natural History Hike 
8:30 – 11 a.m.
Step back 25 million years in Orange County’s history to a time when the seas receded and the San Andreas Fault was just starting to form. With a Laguna Canyon Foundation volunteer naturalist, discover the geologic processes going on today and how they affect the natural landscape. This moderate 3-mile hike is over uneven, steep and sometimes rocky terrain with a 300-ft elevation gain.

June 7 – Under the Sycamores: Insect and Arthropod Zoo  
1 – 4 p.m.
Dr. Sue Van Vorhis Key, Ph.D., has a zoo full of amazing live insects and other arthropods, from walking sticks to scorpions. Look and learn! You can even touch an insect! Experience an insect scavenger hunt in the shade of the sycamores. Make your own insect! Complete a life cycle puzzle. Join us for Dr. Sue’s talk about arthropods at 2 p.m.

June 9 – California Native Plants Historical Uses  
9 – 11 a.m.
Learn about the many fascinating uses of California native plants during the pre-mission period, on this 2-mile hike (490-ft. elevation gain) over steep and uneven terrain. This hike will focus on plants used historically for tools, food and building materials.

Stretch your mind and body on this 2.4-mile hike with a yoga twist over steep and uneven terrain (100-ft. elevation gain) led by Laguna Canyon Foundation volunteers.

June 11, 18, 25 – Bayside Buddies
10:00 – 11:00 a.m.
A new Summer program for school age kids! Join us for an activity based hike and then cool off in the Interpretive Center classroom for a craft. Learn about the different habitats of Upper Newport Bay.

June 13 – Kids’ Fishing Clinic
7:00 – 11:00 a.m.
OC Parks would like to invite you and your kids to a fun morning of fishing at Clark Regional Park. This Kids' Fishing Clinic (ages 15 and under) is designed to teach kids how to fish, while giving them an opportunity to catch a few from the lake. The lake will be stocked with catfish and there will be a two-fish limit. Prizes will be available for the largest fish caught!

June 13– 2nd Saturday Trail Work Day
8:30 – 11 a.m.
Come join park staff and our trail leaders by volunteering to assist with habitat restoration, non-native plant removal and trail work throughout Irvine Regional Park. Please wear jeans and durable shoes or boots. Park provides tools and gloves. Bring sunscreen, hat, snacks and water.

June 14 – Beginning Mountain Bike Ride

Learn mountain biking basics and trail etiquette on this 6.8-mile ride over steep and uneven terrain (800-ft. elevation gain) while enjoying canyon views. Please come prepared with a bike suitable for off-pavement riding, sturdy shoes, helmet, gloves, water and snack. Led by Laguna Canyon Foundation volunteer mountain bike trail assistants.

June 14 – Intermediate Mountain Bike Ride
8:30 – 10:30 a.m.
Catch beautiful canyon views on this 10-mile ride over steep and uneven terrain (1,000-ft. elevation gain) with Laguna Canyon Foundation volunteer mountain bike trail assistants. This is for INTERMEDIATE riders with mountain biking experience.  Appropriate mountain biking equipment required. Must have helmet, gloves, hydration; a snack is strongly suggested. This bike ride is not for beginners. Be prepared for varied weather out in the canyons.

June 14 – The Mysterious World of O’Neill Regional Park

Have you ever wondered “Where are all the wild animals in the park?” Visit a Show and Share Exhibit located next to the O’Neill Park Nature Center and discover mysterious clues animals leave behind. Make a wild animal track mold and enjoy nature crafts and games. Enjoy Nature Crafts and Games!

June 14 – Second Sunday Restoration Program
9 a.m. – 12 p.m.
Join Preserve Staff and other volunteers in enhancing the Bay’s habitat for local wildlife. Activities may include non-native plant removal, planting natives, watering, trash cleanup and Butterfly Garden maintenance. No experience is necessary; water, snacks and tools are provided.

Enjoy a wonderful, moderate 3-mile walk (535-ft. elevation gain) through Laguna Coast Wilderness Park. Catch views of the canyons and mountain ranges from the ridge top and then walk down to Barbara’s Lake, a hidden jewel and the only natural lake in Orange County.

Join us for a wonderful 4-mile hike in beautiful Aliso & Wood Canyons while we share and discuss our favorite books. Come prepared to contribute a title or two and leave with the anticipation of some great new reads as well as a relaxed and exercised body. Led by a Laguna Canyon Foundation volunteer naturalist and reader. Elevation gain 300 ft. on terrain that can be uneven and rocky.

June 20 – Amazing Snakesssss
7:15 p.m. – 8:45 p.m.
In the spring, snakes emerge from their winter dens, warm themselves in the sun, and begin to wander the hills in search of prey. They will be active until the weather cools again in the late fall. Join Steve Bledsoe of The North American Field Herping Association to see live snakes and also enjoy a presentation about our local snakes. Bring your curiosity and your questions. Learn to tell the venomous from non-venomous snakes.

Want to enjoy the outdoors and help take care of park ecosystems? Join us for Restoration Days at Peters Canyon Regional Park every third Sunday from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. It’s recommended to bring water and snacks, have sunscreen, and wear pants, long sleeve shirts and boots.

June 21 – Father’s Day Journey

Bring dad along on the backcountry wilderness hike he's always wanted. Enjoy the oak-filled Wood Canyon and Wood Creek Trails as we search for wildlife and their evidence. This is a 2-mile (150-ft. elevation gain) hike.

Come enjoy a wonderful morning walk around the lake and learn about the native plants and critters in the park. This is an easy 2.5 mile walk (both paved and dirt trail) with no elevation gain. Led by Laguna Canyon Foundation Volunteer Naturalists. Dogs on leashes welcome.

Now is a great time to start a new fitness routine beginning with an easy 2.5-mile hike over moderate but uneven terrain to Barbara’s Lake and back (45-ft. elevation gain). Join Laguna Canyon Foundation volunteer and registered dietitian to learn about fitness and nutrition during this 1.5-hour hike.

June 27 – Long Distance Hike in the Back Country
8 – 11:30 a.m.
Explore the beauty and diversity of Willow Canyon, Bommer Ridge, and Emerald Canyon in the backcountry of the Laguna Coast Wilderness Park. This will be a strenuous, 7.2-mile hike (650-ft. elevation gain) over rocky, steep, and uneven terrain. We will hike through sycamore and oak woodlands, coastal sage scrub, and along ridges with beautiful vistas. Participants should be fit and able to hike long distances.

June 28 – Family Bandito Bike Ride to Dripping Cave

Join a band of bike wielding young explorers on a ride to Aliso’s most intriguing attraction. We’ll learn the mysterious legends of this famed bandit hideout as well as its previous inhabitants- the native Acjachamen people. Earn a Ranger badge for being an accomplice on the journey.
